Google Search changes

On the 19th November changes to Google Search, that had been rolled out earlier in the USA, hit the Australian version of the search engine.

Summary of the Change

In a nutshell, if you have searched on Google recently, with a location in your search terms such as 'house and land packages melbourne', you may have noticed that the Google Map which used to be positioned at the top of the search results is now positioned on the right hand side of the browser window above any Google Ads, and that instead of the related website listings being found directly beside the map with one line per entry, these listings are now found in amongst the normal organic search results with a full search listing. The map related listings are obvious by the 'Place page' link on the right hand side of each listing, and also the labelled map pin shown beneath the search listing with the address.

Reviews

You will also see that some Google Place listings includes 'x Reviews' above the 'Place page' link.  The link takes the reader to a page about your business (content drawn from your Google Place listing), and also shows any comments posted about your business.  Any person with a Google sign-in can enter a review of a Google Place website, and record a number of stars as part of their review.

Impact of the Change

I expect that this change will make your Google Place listings (aka 'Google Map' listing) now even more important than before to help your website appear high up in the search engine results.  It is unclear yet whether the end user will readily tell the difference between a Google Place listing and the regular organic search results because they now look so similar, therefore using Google Place listings well may be able to give you a "leg up" higher into the results.

It is likely that the words included within the Reviews of your business will be used by Google to help decide the order in which to show Google Places listings for a specific search. You may like to ask your happiest clients to user particular keywords within their review of your business.

If you have any questions about optimising your website for the search engines, or would like help to set up a Google Places listing, please don't hesitate to get in contact.

Contact Point has Moved!

We're really pleased to have moved into larger offices on St.Kilda Road.  Our new offices give us room for more staff, and greater flexibility with meeting rooms and the like.  We also love being opposite the Shrine and Botanical Gardens.  Next time you're in the area, feel free to drop in and say hello.

New address:
Suite 119 (1st Floor),
370 St.Kilda Road,
Melbourne VIC 3004

Our phone number is unchanged, though our new and super fast internet service should allow our VoIP connection to work in a much improved manner.

Do you have your Christmas Email ready?

Many businesses now utilise email to send a Christmas message to their customer database including details of if/when they are closing for Christmas as well as to pass on some Christmas cheer.  This is a cost effective and environmentally responsible way of sending out your Christmas message.

We can help you with a professionally designed email that incorporates a Christmas look and feel around your business branding, to add that Christmas sparkle to your message.  We can either supply the email design to you in an HTML file, or add it to your eNudge account for use in your next campaign.
