Newsletter Vol. 4, 2006

The ACMA (Australian Communication and Media Authority) have been recently turning their attention to unsolicited telephone calls "in response to increasing levels of community concern about the growing number of unsolicited telemarketing calls". You should be aware that the ACMA is also very active in the area of spam and pursuing illegal spammers through to prosecution in Australia. Many other countries are using the Australian Spam Act 2003 as a template for their anti-spam legislation. For lots of interesting information regarding anti-spam laws and their implementation, please refer to the publications section of the eNudge website.

We are very excited as the commercial launch date draws near for eNudge, and our beta clients help us to make the last few tweaks. We have added a walkthrough of the screens on the eNudge website and you also get to hear my voice explaining it to you, should you wish to understand the solution better!

I hope you find the snippets below, from our projects and general news, useful.

Best wishes,
Heather Maloney

Competition draws traffic!

Team Fever, a provider of excellent quality, custom-designed sporting team apparel, has recently run their first online competition offering $3,000 in prize money to the team attracting the most votes. It was a case of which team could co-ordinate their friends and online contacts to rapidly vote online.

The competition attracted a huge amount of interest, with the winning sports team recording nearly 30,000 votes. How's that for generating traffic to your site!

If your sporting club needs a new look set of clothing, check out TeamFever.

Should I buy an email list?

In the email marketing arena, nothing is quite so tempting as the thought of being able to quickly reach hundreds of thousands of people with an email that costs next-to-nothing to send, by buying or renting a list of email addresses. Read the full article on this topic at Let The Buyer Beware.

Tip #4: Faxes and voice-to-voice marketing are NOT covered by the Spam Act 2003 (Australia), but it does apply to email, instant messaging, SMS and MMS of a commercial nature. (Refer to the Spam Act FAQ)

Savings via the Internet - eCensus

If you are looking for an example of how the internet can save time and money, in this case for the Australian government, you don't have to look any further than the Census Online (one of the first in the world). It may be awhile before we hear exactly how much time and money it has saved through the quick collation of answers entered directly over the internet, and also by the reduced effort required to collect forms. However, it seems that the online census was very well received with nearly 600,000 Australians choosing to complete the census online. My personal experience was that the online method was a lot less daunting than the rather large booklet! Read more here.
